so i guess it's necessary for me to say "it's been a while" cuz really, it has. it's seven thirty something in the morning and i'm finding many means to procrastinate studying this morning. i have a final at 10am then one at 7pm, which will be followed by sushi and sake bombs, which is quite essential seeing as we're celebrating my birthday early and tonight marks the end of fall quarter. yes, it's very much needed. i just cannot wait.
ohh the updates...vell, i've been swimming a hell of a lot more this quarter. started a 'team' (hardly a team, but some good work out buddies) w/ alex and mahoner. we were expanding for a while and then that died, of course. cant say i've done much swimming this week though. busy being lazy or 'studying'.
in other news: fall quarter went quite well. i already miss typography. glass fusing was fun, got some coool stuff out of that class. beg. graphic design: pretty much as lame as everyone described it to be. art history: boring at times, cant wait til it's over tonight. and, grc 101...man, the biggest waste of a class in my entire college career. definitely didnt show up for that class for three weeks and i dont think i missed much.
besides school...the boy and i are doing well. i get to see that goofball later on this month. i seriously cant wait. it's gonna be glorious esp since i have no work to worry about. oh man, winter break is gonna be awesome. probably just filled with attempts to work out, good food, fam time and whatever else i can think of. u can bet there'll be some crazy shopping going down too. haha. my holiday wishlist is already accumulating. i wonder when the fam is going to want it from me. i'm sure they're just SO excited.
in any case...i should probably at least go look at more material to study for my 10am final...i mean, i have to at least try to study for this extremely unncessary class. i'll just be glad if i pass.

current opinion of "life": awesome.
honestly, i cant complain whatsoever. been busy w/ a design project for surfrider foundation. i get to do a flyer and shirt for an event in september. pretty cool to finally contribute since i am a second year member. plus the people are awesome to work with and definitely appreciative of my work. always nice to have that. it's no pay but i get a good amount of experience and it's getting me back into a design mindset. good prep for fall quarter.
speaking of fall quarter...i guess my schedule is coming together. not sure i'll get into 3D design (134) so i went ahead and added 241 (glass fusing and forming). sounds pretty sick to me. i still have to crash katie's type class...i'm just going to tell her i'm in cuz i have no other options, and i wont have it any other way. densham will not win. here's the schedule thus far:

tuesdays and thursdays look real nice. no class before noon has never happened, so it'll be a new thing for me. only problem is thursdays are club meetings at 11. of course it'd never work out THAT well for me. haha. oh well. everyone knows i'll be living at dexter anyways, so of course i'll be there all of the time. haha.
so anyways, as i was saying. life is fricken great right now. i even get to check off the "guy" section. yes kids, it's actually mutual interest but we're just talkin. time right now is for fun, so that's what i'm doin. :) and to top it off, i leave for hawaii in 9 days. so, conclusion: doin pretty damn good right now.

so...it's august. still no job...but somehow it doesnt bother me. update since last entry:
-wedding (will & desiree): awesome, awesome, awesome. tons of fun and i miss the whole bridal party. we got along so well. should've seen us gettin down on the dance floora at the reception. definitely good times. (pics: http://community.webshots.com/album/397988661fIBTYS)
-U.S. open of surfing: missed out on this last summer so i made it a point to get out there. four days in a row of waking up at 7am and gettin down to huntington beach pier before 8am for hours of surfing. got myself a pic w/ my favorite female surfer. -disneyland: this was yesterday actually. i totally forgot how much fun disneyland was. went on practically all of the rides except for splash mountain b/c the line was never shorter than an 85 minute wait...longest we saw was 130 mins. so not cool. plus we had indiana jones break down while we were on it. it killed the ride for me since we got to walk through the latter part of the ride. but we went on that three times after that incident i think. space mountain also broke down on us. we managed to ride on it before that but our second time we wanted to go after it was up again: 170 min wait. even a 130 min wait at 1130 and they close at midnight. wtf? i forget what else broke down on us. but in any case, there were tons of other rides to go on and we did that. such good times. i dont have pics but hope to get some from other people who went.
-tomorrow: SD zoo and balboa park! SO excited for that. if only we could go to seaworld too. haha. that's way too much in one day. but yes, cant wait to go. probably should get to bed soon for it since i'm still tired from disneyland.
-future plans: hawaii trip!!! airfare is cheap at the end of august all the way up to early december. so i'm totally going to take advantage of it. trip is currently in the works. hopefully it'll all work out. it'd be a good end to a summer that wasnt too bad. :)

so...it's been a long ass while since i've had any kind of entry. not a whole lot since i last wrote:
-moved into the new casa off of foothill and tassajara
-getting ready for a friend's wedding this coming weekend
-still jobless (but i guess that's not new)
-i've been in orange county for the past 2 weeks...nearly 3, and it's probably going to turn into 4 or 5 since my sister is coming home from london this weekend
-i'm even more broke now than before (still, no new news)
and that's really it. when/if i'll return to slo, who knows. if someone in slo knows of a design job opportunity for me, i shall return, otherwise, this wedding and my sister are keeping me happy here :P |

soooo yeah. it's been summer for me since tuesday after 6pm. i've probably done nothing. applied to a few jobs. let's hope those go through okay cuz i need one. currently broke. what a lovely feeling that is. weather hasnt been that great. i'm slowly packing to gradually move to my new house. bummed that people are leaving for the summer. they should all stay!!! it'd effin rock. maybe i'm just bummed b/c most of my boys are heading home. i kind of want to go home too but we'll see. if all of my job prospects fall through, then home it is b/c i just dont have the money to stay here. it's free food and stuff like that at home.
i guess i have done some work. recently started doing a vector drawing (inspired by tommy, of course). (http://community.webshots.com/photo/333143579/364840639HjKfpA) she's not quite done yet. we'll see when i finish it. it's just incredibly time consuming to the point that i have to kind of plan when i want to work on it otherwise i waste my day. plus i gotta finish a design for my friend's wedding program cover. i REALLY should do that actually.

ohhh love love love SF!!! been a long ass time since the last update. latest thing: SF trip---studio tours and portfolio review. no review for this girl though. i just dont have anything to show. but breakout sessions and meeting other people from other schools was cool. great to see the variety of work thats out there. i'm not sure i can be more amped on graphic design at the moment. weymouth design was rad. our contact (and alumni) was so cool. really nice guy. wouldnt mind having his job either. pentagram will always impress someone w/ their size but i dont think it's the place for me. got free stuff though. free is always fun. :) as for the not-so-serious stuff...shopping and dinner around union square. we managed to find a cool bar called Swig (www.swig-bar.com). wouldnt mind going back there again. the hotel was cool too (www.sfhoteldesarts.com). i think the only thing that might not sit well with me bout SF are the bums. they're nuts! scurred the poo outta me. haha. okay, well it's not THAT bad, but there are some crazies out there. overall, after this trip, i'm pretty positive you'll be finding me in SF, workin for some small firm...i hope so at least. i think this trip helped give me a better edge on what i need to be thinking about in the next two years while i'm prepping my portfolio. ah...cant wait to go back. cant wait til the fall when i can let the frustration end and take some REAL classes.
ohh yes how sweet that'll be. in the mean time, it's getting through this week, dead week, and finals. amazing how fast this year went by. well...best of luck to YOU. ;)
p.s. if you're AIGA(or not?), come by the elections this thursday, 11am and vote for me!!!!!

recent studio lighting class assignment: replicating a photo from an ad as best as i can.
chosen ad: nixon watch (i'll have to scan the real ad later
shot taken w/ the digital & only burned in face of the watch to bring out the red a bit more. we'll see if the slide shots came out well too.
and this one was just for kicks. i just wanted to see what else i could do w/ the light. if i had it my way, i could've been in there longer. 3 hrs just isnt enough some times.

oookay...so we're two days into week #3...feels like it's been longer but oh well. isnt that how it always is? as far as what's been goin on with me...been swimming plenty since the quarter started. i've made it a point to do some sort of physical workout everyday...i go a bit easier on myself on the weekends...but...you know how that goes. pool's been closed for two days now...kind of puts a dent in my working out...went running/hiking yesterday and now i hurt. umm...last friday was the student show opening. saw great stuff by all kinds of people in our dept. kit hinrichs from pentagram also spoke that night...the man is awesome. truly inspires me even more to be a graphic designer. i think there were speakers from before who kinda made graphic design seem like so much grunt work and that it wouldnt be enjoyable...but man, kit just kinda gave a glimpse of the 'glamourous' side (if you will) of graphic design. he's kinda the wise old man...and yeah, he kinda looked like santa claus...nice and jolly too which made him all the more pleasant to listen to. i wouldnt mind having his job :) also went to the premiere of the student-made film Leave It To Chance. cinematography and directing was good, but the acting wasn't so much. well, actually some of it was bad. not a bad storyline...and just the fact that this guy put his vision into execution is great (even if he is ass broke now).
this coming may is SF portfolio review. i wont be getting a review though...i just dont have anything. but there'll be seminars to attend and studio tours (which i am very excited for)...and, hell, it's SF! so awesome. i havent been there in a while...i should call up my sister's old high school friend who works at frog design now. he's such a cool guy.
anyhow...i guess this quarter is going quite well. i'm gladly not going insane with endless work for what seemed like an endless number of classes. somehow 17 units is FAR more relaxed than 21. now, if only the weather will get even nicer and warmer so i can head to the beach more often. :) i am tanner which is great. no more pasty me. yessss!

i swear, the more i hang out w/ people in my dept, the more i love em. wine & portfolio night was a success. so fun, great work and interesting conversations. i missed out on maria velasco though :( someone wanna fill me in? tomorrow's friday...TGIF. still got an 8am lab to attend and then a pre-press lecture at 11, thus i skip 377 lecture to get to it. i think it'll be worth it though. quite excited :)
things are looking good. i think i'm going to get even more involved in AIGA and the dept in general. perhaps a position on AIGA in the year to come? i think so ;) all i know is that our dept rocks! lookin forward to winter gala. cant wait til this quarter is OVER. maybe i can breathe...and sleep. haha. that's all for now. 8am lab...and it's 1am. yup. laaater ;) muah |

will it stop anytime soon?!?!? hehe. it just keeps pouring...and of course, i swear that it REALLY comes down right when i pull up somewhere and need to get out of my car or just be outside for a bit. someone up there must think it's funny. hehe. ah well. i cant wait til the summer again. heck, just even spring break. it BETTER be sunny and warm during spring break.
anyways...this weekend has been quite nice. nothing too much. been getting some work done...slowly but surely. i saw Constantine on friday...not too bad. couldnt help but say...'it's NEO' when keanu makes his first appearance in the movie. haha. you know you'd do it too! ah, and yesterday was fun. brunch and bottomless mimosas with great people yesterday at mission grill. is it that bad to be drunk midday on a sunday? haha. ended up not being as productive as i planned. eventually started working on stuff after coffee w/ my favorite which was at like...830pm. haha. horrible, just horrible. but no regrets, that's for sure. but even then, productivity level was still at an all time low. i eventually popped in a movie. saw big lebowski first cuz i hadnt seen it, then followed with the notebook. i loved the book, so naturally i had to see the movie. as most books made into movies, the book was better.
i guess i'd better start gettin stuff done.
t-minus 4 weeks til this quarter is officially over. i've got a few midterms, research paper, 4 projects and 4, maybe 5, finals before i'm done w/ this quarter. |

love works in mysterious ways. we feel the push and pull of it. regardless, even when we think it's lost and that we can never love again...it comes back. perhaps in a different form...it's even more beautiful than before. love shakes our souls. we feel alive with it. it feels like what everyone keeps calling it: it's the fire that burns within us. we feel alone with out it, empty. we wander day to day, searching, longing for it again. we feel joy when it is found, and remorse when we've lost it. no matter who the person, they embrace love. dance and feel joy in its presence. it brings that glow to each of us when we're possessed by it. of course, love makes you do stupid things, but life is about the cycles we go through with love, the rise and fall. even if we dont understand it or why it makes us do the things we do, we still wander in its beauty.
i'm still right there...wondering when i get to remember how beautiful love is. in the mean time, i try to find joy in the other loves of my life.

not sure if this quarter could get any worse. i think almost every aspect of my life sucks right now...except maybe friends. you guys have been great really. you're what gets me from day to day. but really...everything else...blows. i just wanted it all to be over. 5 more weeks of this ridiculousness. 5 more weeks of feeling like i have more than i can handle. 5 more weeks if feeling frustrated w/ guys...okay, maybe that one will go on for longer, but hopefully it'll end sooner. that's extra bullshit i dont need. but then again i've been busy enough where i just dont care. 5 more weeks of not going to the gym...i really need to get back into SOMETHING. 5 more weeks of being tired all of the time. i just hope to get over this cold eventually...bad sleep habits dont help.
i really need to move past this whining crap. there are people who have it worse than me. at least, i'd like to think so. blah...come spring break i plan on doing close to nothing. probably head to the beach, soak up the sun and just...BE. no worry in the world. if only i could do that in hawaii...but that's not happening. poo. need to get away. a good week could help....
in the mean time i'll just dream of of better days... |
